Since it was created, in terms of ethics, the A Raymond network has always adhered to a clear and rigorous strategy in every domain: trading, engineering, legal issues, HR and the environment. It was therefore entirely natural in July 2003 for A Raymond to join a well-known international initiative: The United Nations Global Compact. What is the role of the Global Compact ? The United Nations Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. Objective : By doing so, business, as a primary agent driving globalization, can help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere. Since then, A Raymond has incorporated these principles into its global strategy and encourages suppliers and customers to respect these principles. Principles of the global compact : Human Rights • Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights • Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Labour Standards • Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; • The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; • The effective abolition of child labour; • The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. Environment • Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; • Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; • Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Anti-Corruption • Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. http://www.unglobalcompact.org/
